Chuck Vogan -- Portrait Artist

Charles R Vogan Jr was born on June 13, 1950 in Pennsylvania, moving south to Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley in 1972. He began training for the Christian ministry and received a B.A., an M.Div., a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies, and most recently a Th.M. in Old Testament. Author of 65 books on the Bible and 140 training videos on Bible topics, for ten years he served as the pastor of two churches in Virginia, and 2 1/2 years as a seminary professor in Washington, DC.

In 1974 he married Elma Ritchie, and they have six children -- all grown and pursuing their own careers. As of this writing, the Vogans have 13 grandchildren!

Chuck has always had an inclination toward hobbies. He has been a motorcycle rider for 45 years (having taken five trips out West). He is involved with Amateur Radio (licensed as KD5KA, Extra Class), woodworking, astronomy (he built a 13" reflector on an equatorial mount), and now art.

Having no training in art, in 2003 he drew his first picture:

… and discovered a hidden talent. Pursing the difficult aspects of portrait drawing, he tackled well-known historical figures and worked out the fundamentals of getting a likeness.

After a two-year hiatus, in 2008 he decided to go back to portraits and attempt the Presidents for the election year.

Since that time he has continued with drawings of celebrities, family (see our six children below!) and friends, fine-tuning his skills at portraits. He has taught portrait drawing twice at a local community college.
